Insignia and Escala To Get New Neighbors
Two landmark Seattle condo towers may be welcoming new neighbors in a few years.
The Puget Sound Business Journal reported that the lot where the Icon Grill sits on at 5th Avenue was just sold. The new owner, Douglaston Development, plans a 45-story hotel/residential tower with 151-hotel rooms and 394-apartments (per the Seattle DPD website).
Douglaston’s website indicates they’ve developed both apartments and condominiums so it’ll be interesting to see if they end up being apartments given the surging demand for condos.
This property is to the NE of the Escala Condominium, while the Altitude Sky Tower is proposed towards the SE, with just an alley width of separation between the buildings. The Altitude Sky Tower is a 50-story hotel/apartment/condo hybrid.
Though, it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise to Escala owners since twin towers had been planned on this half block dating back to 2007. A previous developer had planned the Heron Pagoda project there before they were foreclosed upon in 2009. It was always primed for development.
It had been noted that the Antioch University property across the street from Insignia Towers had been purchased. The new owner is planning an equally impressive, but even larger project with two 40-story towers on top of an 11-story podium containing 812 residential units and 170 hotel rooms.
To the south of Insignia, an 11-story office building is planned for the parking lot across the street.
All three projects have upcoming land use design meetings.
