Hey, I just found you. What great content. I am adding you to my reader and site now. Lar
Larry – thanks for the kind words.
I actually looked at these about 6 months ago when they were just putting the finishing touches. The sellers agent was kind of a jerk though and never returned our calls. Not sure if he’s still there though. The shame about this development is that it was originally planned to be a “prefab” building and had been dubbed Red 4217. From what I was told, they had some issues with bringing the prefab units down from Vancouver BC and the surrounding home owners didn’t want to allow a crane onto the development site. Too bad, I think the development would have had a lot more appeal if it had been prefab. Here’s an article from DJC.com via Weber Thompson back in ’04 that speaks to it – http://www.weberthompson.com/coverage/Djcmodular030504.htm
Only one of six units has sold after having been on the market since January 2007, and that after the construction had been halted for several months the previous year. What were these developers thinking building 1/2 million dollar condos two doors up from a biker bar and two doors down from a crowded barbecue takeout joint? Half the population of “vivacious” Fremont can look right into the living room of those model units while munching on Cuban pork sandwiches. Serves the developers right for chopping down two supposedely protected trees during the excavation. (Yes, the neighbors noticed).
I agree, this project is in a tough location right on Fremont. Unit #2 (I think it’s the model unit) just went under contract a couple of days ago. The developer did reduce prices on the other four units last month, but only by $20,000 — not a lot considering those start in the $600,000s.
