This project is on government surplus property that King County put out to bid. Unfortunately, the addition in this design will bring an end to this building's status as contributing to the Pioneer Square Historic District. I wish King County would have considered this implication, and selected one of two alternate bidders, whose development plans would have included historic restoration and new housing--without adding three stories above the existing building. Here’s an interesting Nicole Brodeur column on the Pioneer Square Preservation Board’s decision to allow the project to proceed: "Money trumps history" http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=brodeur19m&date=20070619&query=nicole+brodeur
