The building, known as the Jackson Square Building, was originally constructed in 1902 for James McKinley who operated a blacksmithing and machinery repair shop. Through the years, it has also housed supply and furniture stores and warehouse space.

Jackson Square features one two-bedroom and five one-bedroom homes, many with loft bedroom space and range in size from 646 to 1,776 square feet. The one-bedroom units are priced from $425,000 to $625,000 while the two-bedroom comes at a premium at $1,250,000.
